Representative - District 9
Veteran - Farmer - Businessman
NEW PLYMOUTH, Idaho - Allen Schmid has announced that he has filed the necessary papers with the Idaho Secretary of State to run for Idaho House of Representatives, District 9, Seat A.
“As a veteran, a farmer and a businessman, I know that public education and adequate health care must have a higher priority for our kids to succeed,” Schmid said. “Moving up to 48th in the nation in school funding and failing to provide health care for the 78,000 Idahoans that fall in the gap just above Medicaid do not move us forward.”
A native of Idaho, Schmid grew up in New Plymouth and is a graduate of New Plymouth High School. A United States Air Force Academy graduate, Schmid spent 26 years in the Air Force on active duty or reserve. He now farms in Payette County and also owns and runs a trucking business.
“But it isn’t just about kids,” Schmid continued. “We can guarantee access to public lands, encouraging all Idahoans to enjoy and utilize our Gem State. We can build up, lengthen and improve the Weiser river trail which runs up and down our District. We can improve access to export markets for our Idaho agricultural products. We can create tax and financial incentives to create more jobs. And, we can enact policies that ensure our water is safe to drink and our air is clean to breathe.”
Idaho Legislative District 9 includes all of Payette, Washington, and Adams counties and several precincts in Canyon County. The seat is currently held by Ryan Kirby.
“I want to make sure that every child in Idaho has the same opportunities I’ve had,” Schmid noted. “That means a safe community to grow up in, a good public education, a chance to go to college, and the opportunity to live and work in Idaho. It would be great if our children and grandchildren could stay in Idaho instead of having to move out of state to find the jobs, education and health care necessary to take care of their families. If we do that then we really can say: ‘And here we have Idaho.’ ”
